Pet Supplies for your New Puppy or Kitten

By Jim Wilson

Its important to introduce new bedding or litter box for your new pet so you know its origin and that it is free from any lingering viruses or germs that can affect your new pet. Choose a kennel that is appropriate for the size the puppy is now and not one that is way too big. It is often comforting for a new puppy to have a blanket or towel for the kennel.

Crate training your pet is much easier if their kennel is fitted for the size now. They dont like to go if there is no room in their kennel, thus buying a kennel too larger will deter crate training and will only add to your frustration in training your new puppy.

Pet supplies will include food and food dishes. For your puppy, stainless bowls or dishes will deter the natural chewing phase and avoiding bowls that will tip over is a wise consideration. Puppies are naturally clumsy, so safeguarding your pets surroundings and minimizing your pet maintenance time will further enhance your pets learning curve, until he or she is trained.

A collar and leash? These new pet supplies are essential for a puppy. You can find collars that are made from rope, meshed nylon or leather. You will want to have the puppy begin wearing the collar around the age of eight weeks, this will get them accustomed to it and within a few days they wont even know its a part of their wardrobe. Always check your pets collar size as they are growing, this is easy to overlook at times and you dont want your pet choking or having difficulty breathing.

Pet supplies are easily located online as well as in area malls. Be sure you purchase pet supplies adapted to your pets size. The proper fit and proper food diet is essential in raising a safe and healthy pet.

Pet supplies also include snacks and treats. Treats should be given after your pet has show a positive event, to encourage good behavior and they will quickly learn as you administer treats at the proper times.

Puppies enjoy chewing, this is very natural, although what to chew is never far away. Make sure they do not get the opportunity to be near unworn shoes or other undesired chewable objects. Provide bones or chews for this reason. When a dog gnaws on a bone or chew they are not as likely to chew on things they should not be chewing on and it also provides a way for them to massage their gums and exercise jaw muscles. Chew bones come in sizes adapted for your pets size, please adhere to this guideline for best results.

Toys are pet supplies too! Encouraging play time is just as much a part of a pets life as it is in humans. Make time each day for play time and exercise. A ball or soft chew toy usually does the trick. Pet supplies also include grooming supplies. Your pet needs to be cared for, and daily grooming is very important. A well groomed pet will show off his owners care and concern for proper health care and responsibility.

Taking the time to choose the right pet supplies carefully and wisely will only enhance both your pets well being and your enjoyment of adding a pet to the family.
