Pointers in Selecting a Dog Bed

By Jennifer Johnson

Does your puppy or dog has becoming comfortable on your couch that he/she had claimed as his/her spot? It’s about time that you get them a dog bed or furniture of their own. Dogs and other animals love comfortable place or spot where they can spend their leisure time sleeping or stretching out. Since most of their time is spent in sleeping it is important to get them a dog bed that is as comfortable as the couch that they are used to.

So the next question is, what type of bed should I get for my pet? To make sure that the dog bed you select for your pet, here are some pointers you have to consider:

• Size. The size of the bed must be enough to match the size of your pet. You might be tempted to get a spacious or big bed for your pet, but it would be a waste of money on unused space. To make sure you got the right size of bed for your pet, measure the size of your pet. Measure the length starting from the tip of tail to the tip of the nose. This will give the approximate length and width of bed. Another way is by measuring the length of your pet when he/she is in fully-stretched position. Measure from the tip of the hind leg to the front leg. You can add an allowance if the pet has not reached its maximum height.

• Weather. Some pet owners prefer a dog bed that has a cooler and heater. It can provide warmth for pet during winter and coolness during summer.

• Style and Shape. Pay attention to the favorite sleeping position of your pet. The size and sleeping habits of your pet determines the style and shape of dog bed that is suitable for your pet.

Look for a bed for your pet that would make them comfortable that way you do not have to share the couch with them. A pet bed would be an ideal alternative to your furniture.
